A short piece about the differences between male and female clothing, as seen through the eyes of a a trans woman, who for forty or so years dressed as a boy…
One of my strangest newfound feelings
Is wearing clothing that’s quite revealing
Tops and bottoms cut quite slender
A sensory reminder of my true gender
Where once I modelled long shirt sleeves
My clothes now show a lot more of me
Skirts and dresses split quite high
Displaying an alarming amount of thigh
Shoulders also, and bare necklines
In some outfits, I daren’t recline
Learnt to sit crossed legged and pert
Lest there be an inadvertent upskirt
Knees slapped together, my face a-redding
No more allowance for manspreading
It’s not all bad, some things are better
Especially in hotter weather
No longer required to be suited and booted
Far more forgiving apparel can be mooted
Summer dresses of vivid hues
And much more pleasant lighter shoes
So many things for me have altered
But with my wardrobe I will not falter
My womanhood is not to be reckoned
I would not give this up for even a second.
