Soteriology

This story came from an idea I will be using in a later work, but which started as “a hazmat suit which could withstand Hell”. From that idea came the first line – after all, humanity’s first foray into the Inferno would likely not go well.

Of all the recent crop of short stories I’ve been working on, I am most proud (yes, I am aware that’s a sin 🙂 ) of this one. Of it’s first line, of the idea, of the reversals and where the story goes.

As for the name, that was me googling synonyms for “salvation” – I didn’t want to use that as the title, as it felt too on the nose. As serendipitous as anything is in writing, there turns out to be a word for the very study of theological salvation – and Lo, I had my title – Soteriology.

Anyway, I hope you like this one, as I think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written.
